Australia Retirement Date Calculator
Enter your date of birth to get your Australian retirement dates: your Age Pension date and your superannuation preservation age date. Per Services Australia and ATO rules.
How it's calculated
Your birth date is matched to the official schedules: the Age Pension age (67 for anyone born on or after 1 January 1957, phasing up from 65 for earlier cohorts) and the super preservation age (60 for anyone born on or after 1 July 1964, phasing up from 55). Each date is your birth date plus the relevant age.
Dates only — no pension or super amounts. Normal vs early vs full retirement age.
Examples
Born 15 March 1975: Age Pension (67) 15 March 2042 (Saturday); super preservation (60) 15 March 2035 (Thursday).
Age Pension vs preservation age — two different dates
- Preservation age is when you can generally access your superannuation — your own retirement savings.
- Age Pension age is when you can claim the government's Age Pension — a separate payment with its own residence and means tests.
The two dates are years apart for most people, which is why the tool shows both: "retirement" in Australia usually means the preservation date, with the Age Pension arriving later.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between the Age Pension and my super?
Your super is your own retirement savings, accessible from your preservation age. The Age Pension is a government payment with residence and means tests, available from the (usually later) Age Pension age. The tool gives you both dates.
Is the Age Pension age 67 for everyone?
For anyone born on or after 1 January 1957, yes. Earlier cohorts phase up from 65 — the tool applies your exact birth date to the official schedule.
Does the means test change my date?
No — the means test affects whether you qualify and how much you get, not the age date itself. Your date above stands regardless.
Can I access my super before preservation age?
Generally no — only in very limited circumstances (such as severe financial hardship or specific medical grounds). The preservation date above is the normal access point.
Do I have to retire to access my super at preservation age?
Not necessarily — from 60, super can generally be accessed tax-free even while working in some arrangements, but the rules depend on your situation. The date is when access opens.
