Retirement Date Calculator India
Enter your birth date and choose government or private employment to get your Indian retirement date — with the 1st-of-the-month rule, state-wise verified ages, and an honest "not verified" where no official source exists.
How it's calculated
Your sector and state pick the age (60 for central government; the verified state age; or the age you enter). The day option picks the convention: India's 1st-of-the-month rule retires you on the last day of the month you turn the age (previous month, if born on the 1st) — the FR 56(a) proviso, verified against the Department of Personnel & Training.
Dates only. Unverified states never get a claimed official age. Retirement age for Indian government employees.
Examples
- Central government, born 15 March 1985 (1st-of-month rule): 31 March 2045 (Friday).
- Karnataka (verified, age 60), born 1 June 1985: 31 May 2045 (Wednesday) (born on the 1st, so the previous month-end).

Frequently asked questions
What is the 1st-of-the-month rule?
The proviso to Fundamental Rule 56(a): a central government servant retires on the afternoon of the last day of the month in which they turn 60 — or the last day of the previous month if born on the 1st. It's the default option above because it's the official rule.
My state says "not verified". What should I do?
Enter the superannuation age your state government sets and treat the result as your own calculation, not an official figure. We only publish ages we've verified from an official source — we'd rather show "not verified" than guess.
Is there a retirement age for private jobs in India?
No statutory one — private employers set their own (commonly 58 or 60). Enter your company's age above; the tool computes the date with the same day conventions.
Punjab shows 58 — are there exceptions?
Yes: Punjab's Class IV employees retire at 60, not 58. The tool flags this when you select Punjab — category exceptions like this are why the source notes matter.
Why does Telangana carry a caveat?
Telangana's age of 61 is verified through a state-owned utility's official order quoting the government order — genuine, but one step removed from a .gov.in page. The tool shows the caveat so you know exactly what the source is.
Does this cover NPS subscribers?
Not on this page — NPS has its own exit ages (60, 70, 75). Use the NPS retirement date calculator for those.
