60 Years Retirement Date Calculator

Find your retirement date at age 60 from your birth date — on your birthday, on the last day of your birthday month, or under India's 1st-of-the-month rule. Ages 58, 62 and 65 are compared for the same birth date.

1 Your date of birth

2 Which day?

How it's calculated

On your birthday: retirement date = date of birth + the age (last day of the month if the day doesn't exist, e.g. 29 February). Last day of birthday month: the last calendar day of that month. India's 1st-of-month rule: the last day of the month you turn the age — or the last day of the previous month if you were born on the 1st, exactly as the verified rule states.

An estimate from the numbers you enter — your employer's exact rules decide the official date. Learn the method step by step.

Examples

  • Born 29 February 1964, birthday option: 29 February 2024 (Thursday).
  • Born 1 June 1965, India's 1st-of-month rule: 31 May 2025 (Saturday) (born on the 1st, so the previous month-end).

Which option should you pick?

  • On my birthday — the straight calculation. Right for most private planning.
  • Last day of birthday month — used by employers who retire staff at month-end.
  • India's 1st-of-month rule — for Indian central government servants: retirement falls on the afternoon of the last day of the month you turn 60 (previous month, if born on the 1st). See the government employee calculator and the rule explained.

Frequently asked questions

Why compare 58, 62 and 65 as well?

Because 60 is rarely the only age that matters: 58 is a common superannuation age, 62 appears in several service rules, and 65 is the classic benchmark. Seeing all four side by side shows what each extra year buys you.

What is India's 1st-of-the-month rule?

Indian central government servants retire on the afternoon of the last day of the month in which they turn 60 — except those born on the 1st of a month, who retire on the last day of the previous month. It's the proviso to Fundamental Rule 56(a), verified against the Department of Personnel & Training.

I was born on 29 February. What happens?

On the "birthday" option, your 60th birthday in a non-leap year lands on 28 February (the last day of the month). The month-end option gives the same date; India's rule does too, unless special service rules say otherwise.

Is 60 the right retirement age for me?

It's the most common one worldwide and the default here — but your scheme may say 58, 62, 65 or 67. Check your employer's rules, or compare your date under official schemes with the retirement age by date of birth tool.

Can I use a different age, like 57 or 63?

Yes — the main retirement date calculator takes any custom age in years and months, and the early retirement calculator compares any age against your normal one.
