Government Employee Retirement Date Calculator
For Indian government servants: central employees retire at 60 under the 1st-of-the-month rule; state employees get their verified state age with its official source shown. Unlisted states are never guessed at.
How it's calculated
Central: superannuation at 60 with the 1st-of-the-month rule — the last day of the month you turn 60, or the previous month-end if born on the 1st (FR 56(a) proviso, DoPT). State: your state's verified age with the month-end convention, and the official source shown beside the result.
Dates only. The 1st-of-the-month rule, explained.
Examples
- Central government, born 1 January 1980: 31 December 2039 (Saturday).
- Madhya Pradesh (verified, age 62), born 15 March 1985: 31 March 2047 (Sunday).
Central vs state: what's different
- Central government: one rule nationwide — 60, with the FR 56(a) month-end proviso.
- State governments: each sets its own age (58 to 62 among verified states). We publish only ages verified from an official source; the rest take your entered age and say so.
- Day conventions can differ by state — most retire on a month-end basis like the centre, but confirm yours.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between central and state government here?
Central government servants follow the Fundamental Rules nationwide (60 + the month-end proviso). State government servants follow their own state's service rules, which set their own ages — 58 to 62 among the states we've verified.
What is the 1st-of-the-month rule?
The proviso to Fundamental Rule 56(a): retirement falls on the afternoon of the last day of the month in which you attain 60 — or the last day of the previous month if you were born on the 1st. Explained in full.
My state isn't listed. Why?
Because we couldn't verify its superannuation age from an official source. Rather than publish an unverified figure, the tool lets you enter your state's age and labels the result as your own calculation.
Do state employees follow the same month-end rule?
Most states retire on a month-end basis like the centre, but the convention isn't uniform — confirm your state's exact wording. The tool shows both your birthday-attainment date and the month-end date so you can see the difference.
What about PSU and autonomous-body employees?
They follow their own organization's rules, which may mirror the centre or differ. Use the main India calculator with your organization's age.
